9/11 Answering the Call – Ground Zeros Volunteers
The world has come to remember September 11th as one of the defining moments of the 21st century. The date when everything changed and the U.S. became victim to an act of terrorism beginning with the bombing of the World Trade Centre.
When the Twin Towers were attached, firefighters were among the first to the scene, fighting against raging fires, collapsing buildings, blinding dust and cries for help, risking their own lives to save those caught in the attacks.
This programme commemorates those who lost their lives in the attack, those whose lives would change thereafter and especially those who put their own lives in danger in order to save others.
Beginning with the horrific images of the 9/11 attacks, this DVD goes on to depict the heroic experiences of Ground Zero’s volunteers – Firefighters, tradesmen, church and relief organisations and just ordinary people who felt compelled to help. Retold and relived through reconstructions of the events and actual footage from Ground Zero as well as interviews with those involved with the rescue operations.
It was not just a day of horror and fear, but of overcoming that fear to save lives and “Answer the Call”.
Narrated by Kathleen Turner
The Untold Story of Flight 93 – A Portrait of Courage
September 11th, 2001: The date synonymous with the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York. Often overlooked are the heroic actions of passengers and crew on board the plane that didn’t reach its target: The White House.
For the passengers on board, it was an ordinary day, an ordinary flight. The situation they would find themselves in within minutes of take off would be the most terrifying and telling of their whole lives. The passenger’s decision to try and take back control of the aircraft from the terrorists would leave each one with a terrifying realisation: the knowledge that they were about to die.
This documentary chronicles in depth the events leading up to the flight as well as on board, derived from official records, recorded telephone conversations, eye witness accounts and interviews with close family and friends. The programme sensitively and accurately tells the true story of 33 heroes who were born on that fateful day. The day the world lost its innocence and woke up to the age of international terrorism.
