Quasi-autobiographical pop musical starring late 50s heart-throb Tommy Steele. A rags-to-riches tale of a young merchant seaman called Tommy (Tommy Steele) who discovers a certain way with the guitar. When posted to the West Indies young Tommy discovers the affecting and sensual rhythms of calypso and starts to write his own tunes in the same style. On his return to London Tommy hits the big time when his talent is spotted, and the songs prove a hit with the kids.
