Thai martial arts action trilogy. Tony Jaa both directs and stars in the prequel, 'Ong-Bak - The Beginning' (2008) as Tien, the son of Lord Sihadecho (Santisuk Promsiri), a nobleman in ancient Thailand who is brutally murdered by a rival warlord. To revenge his father's death and his own enslavement as a child by savage slave traders, Tien trains with the Pha Beek Krut, a group of expert martial artists who teach him how to unify the various martial arts disciplines, thereby making him the most dangerous fighter alive. Although it was made before the other two films in the trilogy, 'Ong-Bak' (2003) tells the middle part of the story. When the head of a statue sacred to a village is stolen, young Tien (Jaa) is selected by the villagers to travel to Bangkok and rescue the relic in time for an important ceremony that they hope will aleviate the drought in their region. Left on the temple steps as a baby, Tien was raised by the temple monks, who taught him the ancient martial art of muay thai but forbade him to use it in combat. But when Tien enters the seedy underbelly of Bangkok in search of the criminal genius who stole the sacred relic, he is forced to use his considerable martial arts skills to dispatch a host of evil henchman in a race against time to recover the relic before drought and starvation destroys his village. In 'Ong-Bak 3' (2010), Tien (Jaa) is captured by Lord Rajasena (Sarunyoo Wongkrachang) and his men and taken away to be tortured to death. But Tien is saved from the brink of death once again by Pim (Primrata Dechudom), Mhen (Petchai Wongkamlao) and the Kana Khone villagers, who rebuild his strength and teach him the powers of Buddhist meditation. However, before he is able to make a full recovery, his arch rival returns to challenge Tien to a final duel.
