Review
Futuristic action about a man who meets a clone of himself, and inadvertantly and stumbles onto a grand conspiracy aiming for clones to take over the world.
The 6th Day Review
Arnie's latest movie is set ten minutes in the future, in a world where science fiction has become science fact, with deadly remote control helicopters, virtual girlfriends for the lonely man, and pets that can be replaced with clones when they die. Human cloning is illegal, but when Arnie comes home one night to find himself already enjoying his own birthday party it becomes clear that someone has broken the law. Separated from his family and on the run from the furtive clone makers, Schwarzenegger's mild-mannered pilot soon takes on the familiar characteristics of Arnie the action hero, as he attempts to outwit his adversaries and reclaim his life.
This movie would have been more violent had it been made a few years ago, but real-life family man Schwarzenegger's new-found conscience, and Hollywood's realisation that the less violent a movie is the bigger - and younger - its potential audience is, means that 21st century Arnie isn't quite the ruthless killer we all know. Not surprisingly the film skates around the ethical dilemmas that surround cloning today, but that lightweight attitude permeates a movie that ultimately fails to live up to its potential, and finally delivers just another below par Arnie pic.
