Blade 2 Review

Wesley Snipes is back in black as the "sunglasses at night" vampire killer Blade. This time round he has to forge an unlikely alliance with his former arch foes from the vampire nation, in order to fight a new super strain of vampire creatures who feed on human and vampire alike. Former teen heart throb and Bros frontman Luke Goss excels as arch villain Nomak, the carrier and host of this diseased strain of vampirism which can convert new disciples to his cause in a matter of hours after being bitten, leaving them virtually indestructible and immune to silver, garlic and the such like. Blade soon realises he is up against an opponent that could destroy him and his vampire/commando Blood Pack, which features such familiar faces as Danny John-Jules (Cat from Red Dwarf) Donnie Yen (from Iron Monkey), Daz Crawford (ex-Gladiator Diesel) and RonPerlman (of TV's Beauty & the Beast fame).

Mimic director Guillermo Del Toro has taken the hi-tech sensibility of the first Blade movie and fused it with a gothic comic book approach, creating a truly 'state-of-the-art' movie where CGI shots combine seamlessly with some of the most spectacular camera and stunt work yet seen. However if the film has a fault its that there's at least one fight scene too many; although Buffy fans are used to the idea of chop-socky with the undead it's a little disappointing to see the climax of this supposedly adult movie come down to nothing more than another long drawn out fist fight. Still, that aside, "Blade 2" is still a hugely enjoyable movie that will appeal to any fans of "The Matrix" or Hong Kong action pics. Highly recommended.
