San Francisco. A city intrinsically linked to sunshine happiness and the world famous Golden Gate Bridge. The shadow of the bridge has been cast over the city for more than 100 years. Lurking in the shadows are the people that have travelled hundreds of miles to end their lives by jumping from what has become worlds most popular place for those contemplating suicide. In the USA suicide far outnumbers murder with a person taking their life every 18 minutes. Documentary filmmaker Eric Steel examines the morbid phenomena filming 23 of the 24 people that died on the Golden Gate that year juxtaposing this with interviews with relatives and passers-by. THE BRIDGE is a haunting yet poetic film and guaranteed to linger in the mind.
