On the 3rd June 1989, New York's Lincoln Center paid tribute to jazz legend Charles Mingus with the world premiere performance of his masterpiece, EPITAPH. The composition--which holds the distinction of being the longest jazz piece ever written--was only discovered after the musician's death in 1979. It is performed here by a thirty-piece orchestra under the conductorship of Gunther Schuller.
