Review

Like a testosterone-laden version of 'Azumanga Daioh', the quirky comedy anime series 'Cromartie High School' chronicles the rough-and-tumble high jinx at a school for male juvenile delinquents. The series centres on Takashi Kamiyama, a normal 16-year-old with average grades who somehow ends up at the infamous academy. Here he is forced to navigate its brutal social hierarchy of juvies, outlaws, bullies, and thugs - as well as a 400-pound gorilla, a robot who thinks he's human, and a Freddie Mercury wannabe. Based on a hugely popular manga, 'Cromartie High School' parodies the world of boy-school anime with meta style, tongue-in-cheek humour, and plenty of references to the operatic rock band Queen. This volume continues the wacky anime series with the six more episodes.
