Review
Peter La Fleur is an underachiever who owns a run-down gym which has a clientele to be ashamed of. It comes as no surprise when White Goodman decides to take over the place and he sends in attorney Kate Veach to finalise the deal. Unfortunately for White, Peter's charms win Kate over and she helps him try to beat the odds and save 'Average Joes'.
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story Review
You'd never have thought a Yank take on British bulldog would a great film make but with "Dodgeball," Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn have done it and gloriously so. Stiller dons a comedy 'tache and lycra unitard to play mullet-sporting fitness nut White Johnson, a man whose brain may not be his strongest muscle but whose ruthless health empire Globo Gym is without equal. So when Whyte's cutthroat corporation decides to buy out Average Joe's, a flea-pit of a sports club run by Vaughn's terminably broke, unambitious and decidedly flabby Peter la Fleur, the takeover looks like a foregone conclusion. But White hasn't reckoned for Average Joe's motley crew of regulars, who set out to win the $50,000 needed to save their beloved haunt by entering a big money dodgeball tournament in Las Vegas. And White, for one, isn't going to let them win it without a fight.
It's not just yet another brilliant comic performance from Hollywood's busiest man Ben Stiller or Vince Vaughn's understated cool that makes this a genuinely fun evening out. The rest of the impressive cast - including a particularly hilarious Rip Torn as a maniacal dodgeball coach - is without fault while the underdog story zips along nicely. But it's the sizzling script packing in more gags and ideas a minute than any other comedy this year that makes this movie a must-see. If you don't guffaw at least once in this movie, check your pulse.
