Drawn from the two albums that Eliza Carthy and Nancy Kerr made as a duo at the start of their careers in 1993 and 1995 (actually drawn far more from Shape of Scrape than Eliza Carthy & Nancy Kerr, their debut), this does offer some new pieces: two from Carthy -- "Fen" and "3/2 Hornpipes" (not recorded with Kerr, but musicians she performs with currently) -- while Kerr offers "Reel du Pendu" and "Port in Brandy," both of which have appeared on other albums of hers, in addition to a new version of "Dance to Your Daddy/The Flaming Drones." It's perhaps apt that they should be allowed to add the new stuff as a counterweight to the very young selves who recorded those two duet albums. However, even as teenagers, they were very accomplished -- listen to "Waterloo Fair/Speed the Plough" to hear just how good. While there are some very well-known pieces ("Growing [The Trees They Do Grow High]" and "Bonnie Light Horseman"), the majority of the material shows a depth of knowledge to be expected from the daughters of respected folk musicians. As a look back to the start of their respective careers, it's a valuable snapshot -- certainly to those who don't own the original albums. ~ Chris Nickson
