In July 2006, the English Electric Canberra made its final public air show appearance at the Royal International Air Tattoo at Fairford. Moving and spectacular, the display marked the end of a service life with the R.A.F. stretching back almost 60 years.
Incredibly, the Canberra was originally planned as the replacement for the de Havilland Mosquito. It went on to break 22 world aviation records and become the longest-serving aircraft in R.A.F. history - and was still flying missions in Afghanistan up until the date it retired.
