An 18 cert seems a bit harsh these days

There's no swearing to speak of and the violence is well controlled so why not a 15? No matter, the genius of this film is the way it keeps you on the edge of your seat with great acting with Caine, Hendry and the others playing men who never give an inch. They intimidate with inferred nasties. This makes the few physical scenes more effective. This is Caine's golden period.
