This Pennsylvania-based metal sextet combines the ultra-heavy riffing, groove, and rage-addicted vocals of Pantera and Lamb of God with the industrial-derived keyboard adornments of Slipknot, Mushroomhead, and American Head Charge. The result, on this sophomore album, is a potent encapsulation of American metal as it's been metastasizing since the late '90s. There's nothing wildly original here, but their fury is impressive, their ability to craft a riff that'll make kids bounce each other's heads off the floor of a club is undeniable, and their sense of dynamics when sequencing an album -- surprisingly for a young band -- is pretty solid. They follow a furious rant like "Seasoned Scheme" with a more midtempo, double-bass-drum-driven "The Decider," which, yes, includes samples of former President George W. Bush. Hey, if it was good enough for Ministry's Al Jourgensen, these guys'll take the bit and run with it. "God Willing" is an album highlight, with intricate bass work and an impressive guitar solo, and the disc's final track, "So Be It," is a largely instrumental collage of combat samples, heavy blues-rock riffs, and noise. Ultimately, this is a fierce album that should bump Ninetail past regional success and onto the national metal scene. ~ Phil Freeman
