Directed by Oscar nominated Peter Hedges, the writer of What's Eating Gilbert Grape? and About A Boy screenplays, and winner of the Special Jury Prize at Sundance, Pieces of April is the story of April Burns (Katie Holmes), the black sheep of her family who has never been on good terms with her mother, Joy (Patricia Clarkson). Now that Joy is terminally ill, April attempts to reconcile with her family by inviting them for Thanksgiving dinner at the New York apartment she shares with her boyfriend Bobby (Derek Luke).

As if preparing what might be the family's last holiday meal together isn't pressure enough, poor April's lack of culinary experience (not to mention a working oven) forces her to frantically search her apartment building for help, making appeals to an eclectic array of neighbours.

Meanwhile, the Burns family is speeding down the highway towards New York while recounting April's failures. April's father, Jim (Oliver Platt), is determined to have a nice day, but Joy persists in undermining his plans...
