Review

Fans of the handheld camerawork of CLOVERFIELD and THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT will find much to like in this remake of Spanish film REC. Jennifer Carpenter (DEXTER) stars as a TV journalist who finds herself far too close to the action of her latest story. When she and her cameraman (Steve Harris, THE PRACTICE) start filming an 'average' incident at an apartment building, they realize that one of the building's tenants is the victim of a horrific contagious disease and quarantine will keep them from escaping.

Quarantine Review

In the heart of Los Angeles, television reporter Angela Vidal ("Dexter" star Jennifer Carpenter) and her cameraman are assigned to follow the L.A. Fire Department on their night shift. Eager to break a hot story, Angela tails the fire department as they receive an emergency call from a small apartment building - that was her first mistake! The distressing screams of an old woman living in apartment 2C have neighbours in the building worried as hell. This routine predictably turns out to be a nightmare for all concerned.

The film locks you in with the residents, the news team and the emergency response team as they are forced into quarantine without any explanation. One by one, characters are picked off as everyone becomes infected with an unexplainable rabies virus (yes, here doubling up as the de rigour 'zombie' outbreak).

Even from the opening credits it was apparent this film was doomed. Questions spring to mind about the credibility of the actors who flocked to take part in this debacle. Was it a desperate time in their lives when the decision was made to agree to do this film? Should the actors, director, producers have been quarantined in real life to prevent spreading this one to the public? Was this a horror film or comedic jibe at badly made horror films, and Hollywood's incessant need to remake anything with a half-decent shock involved?

Midway through the film, an explanation is given as to how this nasty virus has appeared, and why a quarantine has been enforced, something which, when it hits, you manage to care less about than the fates of those on screen! If you've seen the original, superior [REC] then steer well clear!
