In January 1988, a live concert was held that would reverberate around the
world. For one night only, in Fort Charles near Kingston, Jamaica, some of the
most legendary names in reggae music took to the stage.
Neville Garrick introduced an amazing line-up, spanning two generations and bringing together the living legends of Reggae; Jimmy Cliff, Bunny Wailer and Toots Hibbert, with Bob Marley's wife Rita Marley and I-Three (Rita's group), as well as Bob's son, Ziggy Marley (& The Melody Makers) who was just making his mark with his first hit Conscious Party at the time the programme was filmed. Other major world-renowned artists included Chrissie Hynde, The Neville Brothers, Carlos Santana, whose music was influenced by Reggae and this was also the first time that Jamaica native Grace Jones performed in her home country in many years.
Featuring a set list comprising such classics as Buffalo Soldier, My Jamaican Guy, It Ain't No Use and The Harder They Come, `A Reggae Session' captures perfectly both the extraordinary energy of these musicians and the rapport that existed between them as they returned to the island that gave birth to this style of music.
