In the latter half of the 1990s, many indie rock bands fell under the influence of the then-new electronica scene, either releasing albums of electronic remixes of their songs or new material in the style. Boston-based shoegazers the Swirlies' 1997 release, STRICTLY EAST COAST SNEAKY FLUTE MUSIC, is both: much of the album consists of songs from the band's first two albums given experimental remixes by the likes of DJ Spooky, but it ends with the multi-part, fully-electronic suite "Symphony of the Sneaky Flutes." Taang! Records also released a double vinyl LP that included both STRICTLY EAST COST SNEAKY FLUTE MUSIC and the band's second album, 1996's THEY SPENT THEIR WILD YOUTHFUL DAYS IN THE GLITTERING WORLD OF THE SALONS.
