Team America: World Police Review

Having scandalised decent society a few years ago with "South Park: The Movie" Trey Parker and Matt Stone are back - and this time it's America's perceived desire to police the world which gets a thorough pasting. Shot using Marionation (think the original "Thunderbirds" TV series), "Team America" is a crack squad of US agents who travel the globe wiping out terrorists and generally keep the planet safe - despite destroying much of it along the way. This latest job sees them uncover a plot by North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il to take over the world, using a peace summit attended by left wing Hollywood celebs as cover.

Rude, crude and wholly irreverent, "Team America" may be a bit fuzzy when it comes to it's political message (creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker just seem to be taking pot shots at everyone and everything), but it's still damn funny watching the moral minority and the more gung-ho types get a good kicking. Taking a swipe at the action movies genre along the way (Michael Bay's "Pearl Harbor" especially gets picked on), Parker and Stone make the most of every cliche in the book and then take things up a notch by deliberately over doing the set pieces and even including an imaginative sex scene - how those puppets never got their strings tangled we'll never know! With a liberal smattering of the kind of songs that made their "South Park" movie so memorable "Team America" is potty mouthed, in totally bad taste and likely to offend 99% of the Great British public - you'd be a fool to miss it!
