It’s back! And by that we don’t mean just hosts Richard Hammond and Amanda Byram. Total Wipeout - the most breathtaking game show on television returns to witness twenty plucky Brits including a Comedian, a Movie Star and a Footballer, taking on the most famous obstacle course in the world.

This series sees the biggest overhaul of obstacles in the history of the show. DVD One features the Unfair Stairs and the Time Tunnel hoops which send contestants flying. Squirty Wirty hoses have been added to the Sucker Punch turning contestants all shades of blue, green, red and brown and the Shapeshifter stands between the painted competitors and the finish podium. The Big Red Balls are still big red and ball-like, but the demotivator provides new inspiration for those dawdling on the ramp.

Charles Darwin once said that “A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life”. He was obviously thinking about celebrities spending 60 minutes huffing and puffing on the Total Wipeout course… because not only do they not dare to waste their time (character-building, win £10,000 for the charity of their choice, make children laugh) they do learn the value of life e.g. “thank goodness that’s over”, “I want to go home now” and “can I have a lie-down please”.

This week’s show is no different to the norm – 10 celebrities from the worlds of sport and entertainment turn their backs on their home comforts, their families and the advice of their agents to just say “no” to tackle the purpose-built course in Buenos Aires. 1 will be victorious and win the title of Total Wipeout Celebrity Champion, 9 will be reaching for the Band Aid.

Richard Hammond is your host, Amanda Byram is your co-host and Brian from Big Brother, high jumper Dalton Grant, glamour gal Nicola McClean and Fast Show comic Simon Day are just some of your victims… or rather contestants.

Let the carnage commence.

Time again for the world of celebrity to take on the World’s most outrageous obstacle course in the name of charity, and in the name of slapstick entertainment! Richard Hammond and co-host Amanda Byram are on hand to watch the likes of comedian Dom Joly prove to his kids, and us, that he is no joke. Blue Peter veteran Peter Duncan shows us that age is no obstacle but the Big Red Balls are indeed an obstacle, whilst actress Susie Amy brings some much needed glamour to the course. Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock proves he’s the hard man of Total Wipeout but manages to lose his trousers in the process.

The glitzy line up of stars is cut to size and spun around on Double Cross and Terror-Go-Round before the last three take their bruised egos to the finale - the dreaded Wipeout Zone. Only one will be crowned ‘Celebrity Total Wipeout Champion’ winning £10,000 for a charity of their choice and more importantly the most converted piece of silverware in the known Universe.

After 9 weeks of crashing, smashing, pummelling, bouncing, black eyes, bruised egos and colourful language… and that’s just what happened to Richard Hammond & Amanda Byram… Total Wipeout Season 5 reaches its swansong, with no swans and very little singing, in Total Wipeout – The Awards.

Richard has his tux on, he has a cardboard box full of hand-engraved trophies (some of which are still attached to their bases) and he has an impressive list of categories to whizz through. Hammond will be dishing out the honours for awards including “The 5 Metre Mud Pit Swim Badge Award”, “The Best Ball Technique Award” and “The You’re Doing It Wrong Award”

There will be laughter, there will be tears, there will be emotionally charged speeches; a fitting climax to a fabulous series. NB There is no speeches
