Art Tatum was one of the greatest pianists ever to inhabit the world of jazz. A huge influence, such pianists as Bud Powell, Oscar Peterson and Lennie Tristano all claimed to have owed something to Art Tatum's keyboard mastery, while classical virtuoso Vladimir Horowitz is reputed to have remarked "If Art Tatum took up classical piano seriously, I'd quit my job next day!" A fitting epitaph for a jazz genius.
