inFamous 2 (PS3) - £13.99

Game of the Year contender

Original inFamous was a good game, heck, it was a great game. I don't know how, but Sucker Punch managed to create an even better game this time around. The (new) powers are awesome and fun to use. Unlike the first game that had the same ending for both campaigns - this time endings are totally different depending on whether you played as a hero or as an evil dude.

Pros: Not one but two (awesome) campaigns, Great ending(s), Powers are super fun to use, Destruction never looked so good!

Cons: Camera can be jaggy during melee combat

BOTTOM LINE: This is one great game that shouldn't be missed by anyone. Even if you didn't like the first game, you'll like this one. It has sooooo much going for it!

The Beatles: Rock Band (PS3) - £3.39

Only for the fans

The Beatles: RockBand experience depends greatly on whether you're a fan of the band. If yes, you'll have a blast, if no, it'll be no good. I'm somewhere in the middle. While it's not one of my top bands, I really like some songs (how can you not like While My Guitar Gently Weeps) but most of them are so-so.

Unlike GH: Metallica where most of the songs are fun to play (not matter you like the band or not) here you really need to love the song to appreciate the chart.

BOTTOM LINE: If you like The Beatles - get it. If you don't like them - don't get it. Simple as that :)

Motorstorm: Pacific Rift - Platinum Edition (PS3) - £13.09

Motorstorm = Fun

Motorstorm games aren't really rich with features and gimmicks, but they are always fun. Unlike the first one that didn't even have a split screen mode, Pacific Rift covers the basics. There are a LOT of car types, something for everyone. The tracks are very unique and won't leave you unsatisfied. When you mix that with great gameplay - you have a really good game on your hands

Stuff I liked:

Tracks are awesome, Great sellection of vehicles, Great gameplay, Good online

Stuff I disliked:

Not fun to play alone, Could use a few new and innovative modes

BOTTOM LINE: If you're into racing games, you shouldn't miss this one.

Mortal Kombat Essentials (PS3) - £12.39

Best fighting game ever

Fighting games are like sports games when it comes to aging - they don't to it well. It's easy to argue that SF IV is the best in the franchise. I strongly believe the new MK is the best yet. And, since I prefer it over SFIV - I now pronounce it the best fighting game EVAH! :)

Seriously, this game has it all. Polished gameplay, sick graphics and fatalities. Good multiplayer and a ton of features.

Stuff I liked:

Everything

Stuff I disliked:

Nothing

BOTTOM LINE: What are you waiting for? Buy it already!

UFC - 2009 Undisputed - Platinum (PS3) - £19.39

Worth the wait

UFC has waited for a good UFC game for quite some time, and they got it with UFC 2009 Undisputed! Controls feel natural, gameplay feels fluid and realistic and graphics look surreal. All this things and you got a really good game in your hands...

Brutal Legend (PS3) - £11.79

Not what I thought I was getting

My first experience with Brutal Legend was trough it's demo - and the demo was AWESOME. Great music, humor and gameplay really sold the game in my eyes. But, there was one thing the demo didn't tell you - full game looks nothing like it.

2 or so hours into the game Brutal Legend transforms into something of an RTS - and I don't like them. But the worst thing is that the humor really fades as the game progresses. First half hour is the funniest of any game I played this generation.

Stuff I liked:

Humor at the beginning, Gameplay at the beginning, The World, The music

Stuff I disliked:

Humor after the beginning, Gameplay after the beginning

BOTTOM LINE: Get it if you like metal, humor and RTS games

Prestige (Blu-Ray) - £7.59

My favorite movie drama of all time!

Amazing, brilliant, masterpiece and all appropriate words for describing this film. From the moment it starts to the moment it ends you won't be able to think about anything else. It captures your attention and never lets it go.

Movies like this don't come out every day. Don't you miss it!

Inception - Triple Play (Blu-Ray - DVD - Digital Copy) - £6.59

Don't watch it twice

Nolan is one of those directors and just get better and better. Over the years he has transformed into my favorite director. Memento and The Prestige and just...amazing. Batman also goes without saying.

My only problem with Inception are the huge plot holes that you will notice during your second viewing. Everything is fine the first time, the second time is a whole other story...

Avatar (Blu-Ray and DVD) - £11.99

Cameron has done it again!

Everything that man touches turns to gold, it's like he just can't fail. Avatar is great in every sense of the world. Will it be the gorgeous world, great effects and the pretty good story.

My only remark is that the ending is predictable.

Resistance 2 - Platinum Edition (PS3) - £6.79

I liked the original more...

Resistance 2 is a good game, but something was just missing. The first one managed to leave a much greater impact on me. Maybe it was because it was my first PS3 shooter, maybe it's because I got hooked on Call of Duty in the meantime, who knows. All in all, the game is good. But don't expect it to surprise you in any way.

Stuff I liked:

Ok story, awesome weapons return, Huuuuge bosses, Good coop and multiplayer

Stuff I disliked:

The game lacks personality, Gameplay can get repetitive at times

Skate 2 (PS3) - £22.09

Worthy successor to the original

The first Skate really blew my mind with impressive gameplay leaned toward realism. At the time Tony Hawk Pro Skater looked like an episode of Jackass, not a game. Something needed to change, and changed it did. Skate 2 does everything the original did, and does it better. There are more modes, better online functionallity and it looks better. But most important of all - it runs smoothly (something that the original failed misserably).

Stuff I liked:

Gameplay, Soundtrack, Online, Good graphics

Stuff I disliked:

Not so fun to play alone, a LOT better with friends

Vanquish (PS3) - £14.39

Overall a good experience

Vanquish is one of those games for which you have to be a serious gamer just to notice. It's not out there, not everybody know it's name. That said, the game itself is good and definitively worth playing. You are powerful, but always presented with a challenge. Best kind of fun!

Stuff I liked:

The suit is awesome, Sleek graphics, Good pace, Extremely fun gameplay

Stuff I disliked:

Boss fights are annoying, The story is pretty generic

Batman - Arkham Asylum - Platinum (PS3) - £13.79

I just don't see it...

I know most people love this game, but I just don't see it. The combat is good and story is solid, but what's killing me is the fact I can't just pick up a gun and shoot everybody :)

Stuff I liked:

Batman is gritty and cool | Joker is crazy and awesome, Voice acting is great, Combat system is good

Stuff I disliked:

Batman is kinda under powered, The game is a little too dark

Official Sony Wireless Headset (PS3) - £29.99

Great PS3 accessory

Sony did an amazing job designing and structuring this headset. It feels good on your head and it's not uncomfortable even after hours of playing. I really like the big mute button, as well as overall talk time (really respectable numbers).

If you're struggling what headset to buy, you can't go wrong with this one!

inFamous - Platinum (PS3) - £18.19

My favorite new Sony IP

I didn't expect much from inFamous. I bought the game just because demo seemed kinda cool. But boy was I in for a surprise. inFamous is easily in my top 3 of 2009 games (with Uncharted 2 and AC2). Even tough Cole is not a really memorable character, the game offers a great pace for the story (and an amazing ending) making you want more. The Hero/Villain approach give the game great replay value. If you get hooked on inFamous and it's Empire City expect some sleepless nights...

Stuff I liked:

The powers, Story, Ending, Empire city, Destruction

Stuff I disliked:

Cole runs funny...

BOTTOM LINE: Don't miss this one!

LittleBigPlanet (PS3) - £9.89

Cutest game ever!

I know cuteness doesn't rank high when choosing a video game, but there is just something about sackboys and LittleBigPlanet. You can play this game with literally anyone. Your sister/brother, mother/father even your grandparents - this game really is for all genders and ages.

Custom created levels make sure that this game never becomes outdated!

Stuff I liked:

Sackboy, Great level design capabilities, Great community input, It's appealing to everyone

Stuff I disliked:

Gameplay could be tighter

Sony Official Dualshock 3 Six Axis Controller (Black) (PS3) - £45.59

As far as controllers go, you can't beat DualShocks

I know some people prefer Xbox design for controllers, but I grew up with DualShocks and I love them.

If you need a new controller for your PS3 please don't throw your money on various third-party controller. You just can't go wrong with the original DS3.

Modern Family - Season 1 and 2 (Blu Ray) - £18.29

Elegant, brilliant and most importantly - funny!

Modern Family is a TV show about 3 families and their everyday life. You have a typical american family with mom, dad and 3 kids. Then you have a pair of homosexuals that just adopted an (Asian) baby and lastly you have a pushing sixty guy with a hot younger wife (played by Sophia Vergara) and her 12 year old kid.

All this results in very funny scenarios! The cast is truly magnificent. Personally, I find the gay couple by far the funniest :)

Mythbusters Vol.1 - £4.59

Really entertaining, sometimes even educational

Mythbusters is a show that manages to bond entertainment and education. Don't get me wrong, it's mostly entertainment - but presenters are far from stupid. They know their business. A great deal of busting (myths) is done scientifically, and who knows - maybe you'll even learn something.

This is in my opinion the best show on the Discovery Channel, you can't afford to miss it.

Friends - Series 4 - Complete - £5.99

The best season of one of the best comedies ever

First 5 or so seasons of Friends are all great, but this one is probably my favorite. I've watched episodes like The One With The Embryos and The One With the Free Porn more than 20 times, and they are funny EVERY SINGLE TIME.

If you can, get all the Friends seasons, but if you can only get one - get this one!

Breaking Bad - Season 2 - £14.49

This is one of the shows people are going to talk about in 20 years

Unlike Season 1 which was more set on building suspense and character development, Season 2 is all about the amazing plot. We already know the characters, so this was a GREAT decision.

In my humble opinion, Season 2 is even better than Season 1. A lot more stuff is going on and you won't be bored. During Season 1 I found myself bored mid season (not for long tough), but Season 2 doesn't suffer from those problems. It's great and interesting all the way!

And the ending. I won't give it away, but the progression Walter makes is just unbelievable. Download it/buy it/rent it - doesn't matter; but you need to see this show!

Heroes Season 4 - £17.39

They canceled the show after Season 4 - nuff said

Season 1 and 2 of Heroes were magical. Season 1 is my favorite season of any show. Season 2 is also pretty good while with Season 3 stupid stuff began happening - even with all that, it was watchable.

Season 4 on the other hand.... I watched because I was REALLY bored. Don't make the same mistake as me, skip it.

24 (Twenty Four) Season 7 - £13.49

OMG Jack, just die already

I really liked the first couple season of 24, but lately it's just painful to watch. It's hard to take a show seriously when there's this much drama and stupid plots. I'd rewrite the show to make it more goofy, something like Chuck. Actually, come to think about it...I don't really like Chuck....

The Big Bang Theory - Seasons 1-3 - £34.79

One of the best TV shows this last couple of years

Even tough they toned down the geekiness a little in the 3rd season, this is still a great show. You have 4 amazingly funny guys and a really hot chick. You just can't go wrong with that!

It's worth noting that the guy who created Big Bang also created Two And A Half Men - another great show. This is a must have for anyone interested in good comedy.

Guitar Hero 6: Warriors of Rock - Solus (PS3) - £7.99

Guitar Hero's final stand

The fact Activision cancelled the whole franchise shorty after releasing Warriors of Rock doesn't really look good for the game. That said, WoR is actually pretty good. Setlist is diverse, but fun (unlike Guitar Hero 5) and the gameplay is streamlined as much as possible.

For the first time in a music game, there is a story, a campaign. It's nothing special but it is a nice feature. Keep in mind that all this is coming from a Rock Band enthusiast. We normally don't like Guitar Hero all that much :)

Stuff I liked:

Story is a nice touch, Pretty good setlist, Powers

Stuff I disliked:

The game doesn't have legs; no real incentive to stick around

BOTTOM LINE: Must buy when cheap, but not worth £40

Band Hero (Solus) (PS3) - £2.99

There are waaaay better music games out there

Band Hero is a game Activision released because they could. At the time music games were kings and it all looked great. Let's just say that because of games like Band Hero music games are what they are today - almost forgotten.

Band Hero has almost nothing going for it. Gameplay/presentation is the same as in other Guitar Hero games and the soundtrack...oh the soundtrack. OST is probably the worst I've seen in music video games lately. I think there was only 1 song I genuinely liked. It's plagued with Pop and other genres that are just awful to play.

Stuff I liked:

Lips of on Angel by Hinder

Stuff I disliked:

Everything else

BOTTOM LINE: Get it only if it's REALLY cheap and you wanna surprise your 10 year old daughter

Assassin's Creed II (PS3) - £10.49

Don't even compare it to the first game

Assassin's Creed II is along with Uncharted 2 my favorite game of 2009. It's sequel to the highly selling Assassin's Creed. That awesome trailer sold more copies than the actual game :)

All in all, AC2 is simply amazing. The story is great, task are no longer repetitive as they were in the first game and the main character is more likable.

Stuff I liked:

The story, The world, Improved combat system, In-game economy

Stuff I disliked:

AI is still brain numbingly stupid

BOTTOM LINE: Buy the game!

Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - £14.99

Better than Grand Theft Auto

Grand Theft Auto was a huge game, both gameplay and sales wise, but RDR knocks it out of the park. Rockstar never made a world so alive and so fun to roam around. The story is really good and keeps you playing for well over 10 hours. That doesn't include all the side missions available. As with any GTA game, you can get real mileage out of RDR if you're set on seeing everything the game has to offer.

Stuff I liked:

Immersive and brutal world, Good story, Superb voice acting, Cool gameplay mechanics (red eye)

Stuff I disliked:

Missions can be too far apart making you travel for up to 10 minutes with your horse, Various glitches

Official Sony PS3 Wireless Keypad / Keyboard - £15.59

Good bargain - when it's cheap

This keypad is not what you'd call a must have. It can be useful but let's face it - you can live without it. If you see it on sale then go for it.

The keypad itself is pretty good. The buttons file sturdy and have a good feel. Playing games when it's on is a little weird at first, but I guess you can get used to it. I personally took it off during gameplay. I had it on only during heavy texting.

Definitely worth purchasing if you type a lot...

Enslaved - Odyssey to the West (PS3) - £6.59

Nice game by developers that brought us Heavenly Sword

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is game from the well established video game developer Ninja Theory, the guys that made Heavenly Sword. Unlike Heavenly Sword that was a PS3 exclusive, Enslaved is a multi-platform game.

You play as Monkey, a buffed up guy that jumps around like; well a monkey. At the beginning of the game you (Monkey) meet Trip, a chick that enslaves you in order to return home. Trip is a little bitchy in the beginning, but she grows on you. All in all, the story is fine (albeit a little predictable), voice acting is really good, along with overall feel of the game. Just like Heavenly Sword, Enslaved has no multi-player.

When it comes to gameplay, it's satisfying. Controls are easy to learn and most importantly, they make sense. My biggest problem are the enemies. There are no human enemies in the game, you're always fighting mechs which get annoying after a while. The game succeeds in changing the tempo, and it doesn't work all the time.

All in all, Enslaved is a good game, definitely worth playing.

Stuff I liked:

Great voice acting, Story sucks you in, Good controls, Good graphics, Convincing post-apocalyptic world,

Stuff I disliked:

Obvious twists, mechs get annoying after a while, there is some screen tearing and textures poping in.

Medal of Honor (PS3) - £10.19

Nice try, but that's all it is

Medal of Honor is another attempt by EA to steal a piece of the FPS cake from Activision i.e. Call of Duty. While it's not a bad game overall it leaves an impression that it could have been a lot better.

Some people don't like MoH singleplayer, but I personally do. It's very different from the likes of Call of Duty and Bad Company 2. Biggest difference is the feel of the game. MoH feels and looks real. Soldiers don't chat, there is on stupid small talk, they talk only when necessary. Some will find it boring, but I found it refreshing. Set pieces are pretty good, although not as often or explosive as seen in Call of Duty games. Overall, I give singleplayer a pass.

Multiplayer on the other hand is a hit and miss. Audio quality is superb! Grenades explode with such realism you'll trow them for no reason - just to hear the bang! Graphics are also pretty good, overall look of the game is dead on. Everything is in ruins, gritty, dusty - just like Afganistan is in real life. One aspect where MoH fails miserably is variety. There is only 8 maps and not all of them are available in all of the modes, meaning you'll play the same 4-5 maps over and over again. The game is plagued by connection and matchmaking issues. Multiplayer is fun for the first couple of hours and then becomes a chore. And let's face it, MoH is a game you buy because of MP, not singleplayer.

Stuff I liked:

Graphic and audio effects, look and feel of the world, passable story

Stuff I disliked:

Lack of MP maps, connection and matchmaking problems, SP is on the short side

Rock Band 3 (PS3) - £20.79

Best music game of all time!

Doesn't matter if you're a newcomer to music games or you have a dozen of Guitar Hero's and Rock Bands behind you - you HAVE to buy this game. With music game genre fading and sales dropping Harmonix knew that a drastic move is necessary. Rock Band 3 IS that move. This game does everything, and does it perfectly.

For the first time you can use a video game to learn a new (real) instrument. With addition in a form of Pro mode you can literally learn how to play a guitar. Even tough this is huge by itself, it's not the only new feature. Another big announcement was the addition of keyboard. Just as guitar and drums, keyboard also makes use of the new Pro mode.

Rock Band 3 setlist received some criticism but I personally like it. It's not the best in the series but it's far from bad. Classics like "Smoke On The Water", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Free Bird" and "Break on Through" will make your mom and dad join the virtual rock band.

Stuff I liked:

Pro mode, Game setlist, Improved music library, Leaderboards, Addition of keyboard, Great post-release DLC

Stuff I disliked:

Some venues are too graphic and can cause headache, Breakneck Speed is (still) a global setting

Uncharted 2 - Among Thieves (Platinum) (PS3) - £9.59

Don't bother reading this review - just buy the game...

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is a sequel to popular Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, a game that was loved but never really cemented itself as a must-have PS3 game. Uncharted 2 changed all that. Crowned Game of the Year by VGA's and most gaming sources, Uncharted 2 really put the franchise on the map.

Uncharted 2 features an amazing singleplayer campaign and a pretty good competitive multiplayer. Singleplayer is in a league of it's own. Cinematic experience is like no other. Mix that with AMAZING graphics and you have a system seller on your hands.

Considering the fact that multiplayer was basically an afterthought, Naughty Dog did a great job. MP is not deep enough to keep you playing for months, but it's a really nice feature that gives a taste for whats coming in the future.

Stuff I liked:

Story, Graphics, Amazing cinematic experience, Outstanding voice acting and chemistry between actors, Fun multiplayer, Great value for money

Stuff I disliked:

Multiplayer could have been better, Singleplayer ends :)

Call of Duty: Black Ops (PS3) - £13.09

Good game, but Activision is playing it safe

Another year, another Call of Duty. Very few gamers resist the Call of Duty franchise so I won't go to any details - I'll just list improvements and things that are different in this CoD installment.

Usually I'm not a big fan of CoD singleplayer but Black Ops surprised me. SP is REALLY good. There are a few twists (although you see the big one coming from a mile away) and the game is really good at changing the pace so you don't get bored playing. I played the whole SP in one sitting. Partly because the SP is pretty short, but mostly because it's surprisingly good.

Multiplayer is pretty standard with few deviations. Biggest new feature must be Wager Matches that let you wager your hard earned cash in a series of Free-For-All modes. Black Ops made another step forward when it comes to customizing your soldier. Now you can make pretty detailed emblems, you can paint the face of your soldier, etc. Another thing that I personally LOVE is that grenade launchers (aka noob tubes) aren't as useful/popular as before. Another thing missing is quickscoping (not a big fan of that either)

Stuff I liked:

Great story (comparing to other FPSs of course), Nice SP levels, MP is diverse with a tone of modes, No noob tubes or quickscoping, CoD points are a nice feature

Stuff i disliked:

Lag, Matchmaking is (again) a disaster, Did I mention lag?

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit - Platinum (PS3) - £12.49

Great driving game with very few setbacks

Let's get one thing out of the way - Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is an awesome game! My biggest regret is that a lot of people missed it waiting for Gran Turismo 5. After playing both of them I have to admit that NFS: Hot Pursuit is in many ways better.

Unlike Need for Speed Shift that's focused more on simulation, Hot Pursuit is pure arcade fun. The game is made by the same folks that gave us Burnout Paradise, arguably the best driving game of 2008. I'm talking of course about Criterion Games. The connection between games is pretty obvious. In example, when you crash someone of the road you score a "Takedown".

Very much like most games that come out these days, Hot Pursuit also has singleplayer and multiplayer components. You can play singleplayer as both a cop and a racer. The selection of cars is ok, but very limited when compared to the likes of Gran Turismo and Forza - around 50 cars. Hot Pursuits singleplayer starts strong but get's really repetitive near the end with races reaching the 10 minute mark.

Multiplayer on the other hand is by far the most polished I've even seen - in any game. There is practically no (gameplay) difference in playing offline and online. There could be some stuttering in the beginning of the race, but even that's rare. Another nice edition is Autolog that tracks your scores and scores from all of your friends.

Graphics are strong, along with audio. Hot Pursuit is hands down one of the prettiest driving games ever released with a great soundtrack reminiscent of the good ol' NFS: Underground days.

Stuff I liked:

Two SP campaigns, Awesome graphics and a stunning world, Fun factor rises greatly when you start playing online (which is impeccable), Soundtrack, Autolog, Crashing cops never gets old

Stuff I disliked:

Chase music and sirens when playing as a cop get annoying really quickly, Singleplayer gets boring after a while; the grind is too long, No Ferrari cars

Battlefield - Bad Company 2 - Platinum (PS3) - £8.69

Great, but not without flaws

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is called a "CoD killer" for a reason. DICE did an amazing job! However, there are certain aspects of the game that can be off-putting. But let's face it, there is no such thing as a perfect game.

If you're only interested into multiplayer - you have to buy this game. If you're only interested into singleplayer - you have to buy this game! Both are crafted in an amazing way and won't leave you unsatisfied. Little things like amazing chat and audio quality REALLY help sell the multiplayer. To be honest, singleplayer is a little short, but offers an amazing thrill ride. Don't expect the story to move you or something like that; this is a shooter, not Heavy Rain.

No matter what you prefer (MP or SP) I bet you'll find something in BF:BC2 worth sticking for

Stuff I liked:

Good graphics (FrostBite rocks), Cool MP modes, Interesting singleplayer campaign, Audio and chat quality

Stuff I disliked:

Maps are too big, Too many people playing with snipers in MP, Single-player is pretty short
