Director of the British Columbian Centre for the Mentally and Physically Disabled, Dr. Bob Shushan has devoted his life to helping others less fortunate than himself, but at the cost of those closest to him. Being a workaholic, his job consumes him into neglecting his family. However, the doctor patient role is instantly reversed when Dr. Shushan suffers a heart attack at the wheel of his car. His unlikely saviour is James Jones (Fox), a dishevelled and disturbed young man who works as a janitor in Shushans Centre. The recovering doctor focuses all his attention on helping James discover respect for himself as well as a more rewarding place in society. In doing so, Shushan must dismantle Jamess mask of anti-social behaviour and track down the one person whom James really needs: ironically, the father who abandoned him many years ago.
