A young man with two bullet wounds in his back is pulled from the Mediterranean Sea by a group of Italian fishermen. Barely alive, he is nursed back to health. With no memory to help him, the only clue to his own identity is a bank account number which has been surgically implanted under the skin. Setting off on a mission to re-discover his life and more importantly his name he soon realises that he is bi-lingual and possesses martial art skills. A trip to the bank uncovers a safety deposit box which contains numerous passports, a gun and bundles of money. The discovery of his name Jason Bourne and an American passport leads him to the American Embassy. Following an incident at the Embassy, 'Jason' teams up with a young woman, who agrees to drive him to Paris, for a fee. They soon discover that they are both now wanted by the police. Their lives are also threatened by unknown assassins.
