With contributions from Whispering Bob Harris, previous manager, Laurence Myers, Dana Gillespie, Paul Nicholas, Mary Finnegan, Chris Sullivan and many others who shared Bowie's incredible life, this new film recounts the enigma that was Bowie. Whereas other artists remained constant in appearance, or gradually evolved their musical style, Bowie was in a state of permanent revolution: constantly re-inventing his persona and sound. From the 1960`s mixture of psychedelia meets fantasy for Space Oddity, through to the ground-breaking, Ziggy Stardust, Bowie defied any label that the music industry tried to place on him. From Thin White Duke to soulful rocker; music, art, fashion and sexuality were Bowie's playthings - he was truly an artistic chameleon. Bowie was born David Jones in January 1947 but reinvented himself as David Bowie, in 1966. For the next fifty years Bowie would carve out one of the most individual careers in music, film and the arts. Featuring contributions from those who collaborated with him and archive interviews with the great man himself, BOWIE is a fascinating exploration of the life and inspiration of a true rock and roll icon who inspired a whole generation to become heroes.

Product Reviews

Creative prophet who changed the world

Like many, I was fascinated by the late great David Bowie. He spoke to us all but you couldn't help but wonder who really was this androgynous figure? He wasn't like us, he wasn't like anybody! This takes you deep into Bowie's past. Some of his inner circle take an honest look at the life of David Jones before he became the King of Glitter Rock and how he challenged our cultural thinking. Heck, I lead such a boring life compared to this Chameleon!

What is it about someone that takes their fame and supercharges it so that they are elevated to the status of icon? “Who knows? Not me, we never lost control. You're face to face, with the man who changed the world.” Bowie was my hero!!! I enjoyed this it captures a real sense of how things were back in Beckenham before he made it, and it reminded of his genius all over again. But be warned, it contains no hits!
