Product Reviews

Masterpiece of a brilliant mind

First two albums of Bruce Springsteen were not commercial success although they were critically acclaimed. Third time was the charm and Born to Run was Bruce's ticket for the immortality in rock music. Original vinyl record is conceived with "four corners" approach where first songs on each side (numbers 1 and 5 on CD) are optimistic songs full of hope in what escape brings while last songs (number 4 and 8) are sad songs about loss and betrayal. Album opens with a beautiful Thunder Road that tells the story about young people running away in search for better life. Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out tells the story of formation of the E Street Band while Night introduces fast cars which are second major theme of this album. End of first half is marked with Backstreets, story of friendship, love and betrayal accompanied with beautiful sounds of Roy Bittan's piano. Second half begins with fast paced Born to Run which is followed by She's the One. Meeting Across the River serves as a introduction for the album's epic finale Jungleland where Bruce's amazing lyrics and heartbreaking sounds of Clarence's saxophone portrait the despair on the streets of New York City. This album is 40 minutes of sheer delight and respectable magazine Rolling Stone in 2003 placed it on the 18th place of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
