It is incredible to think that "Sunshine Superman," the druggy rock & roll classic that boasts a Jimmy Page guitar solo, was actually recorded in 1965. It is as though Donovan had barely hung up his much-criticized Dylan cap before emerging, fully fledged, as the UK's Flower Child Number One. The rest of the album, recorded closer to its September 1966 release, is similarly cutting-edge, especially the haunting "Season Of The Witch," which Al Kooper, Stephen Stills, and Mike Bloomfield covered on SUPER SESSION. On "Bert's Blues," Donovan paid tribute to his greatest influence outside of Dylan, UK folk guitarist/songwriter Bert Jansch.
