The military muscle men return to the limelight with this video game adaptation of the summer action blockbuster.

Hasbro’s line of military action figures have dominated the action toy market since the mid-sixties, and now with its own summer film the series looks set to return to the spotlight once more. Although based on the events of the film itself, this adaptation takes place in its aftermath, where players take control of the elite fighting squad and combat the remaining forces of COBRA. Iconic characters from the toy line and film have all made it into the game, including Duke and Snake-Eyes, each with their own weaponry and abilities.

Sony’s handheld has its own edition of G.I. JOE, with the same gameplay scaled down for the PSP. Once players have picked their G.I. JOE of choice, other team members are on hand to fight alongside or provide backup. Another player can now join the team during the campaign in a co-operative mode.

Capturing the sleek new style of the G.I. JOE force, The Rise of the Cobra is a solid adaptation of the summer blockbuster that expands upon the solid foundations of the film itself.
