After a deep space exploration vessel discovers a potentially habitable planet, a scouting team composed of human and biorobotic individuals is dispatched to investigate the planet's resources. The squad is lead by Major Jon Mason, an inexperienced team commander with a bias toward artificial intelligence. He wants nothing more than to prove himself a capable leader like his famous father, but he's tested at every turn. He clashes with his team of highly trained, synthetically upgraded Rangers, and butts heads with his Science Officer, Aurora Owon, a completely synthetic individual. Once on the ground, the team's problems soon get much worse. They discover they're not alone on this planet and their reconnaissance mission turns into a deadly battle for survival against the planet's hostile alien life forms: terrifying lizard-like monsters with the ability to camouflage themselves in the planet's rocky terrain. But that's just the beginning. Rockslides, meteor showers, infected water, and an eerie, uncomfortable strangeness pushes the team to their breaking point. As the mission continues to fall apart, Mason has to learn how to work with Aurora and his team if they ever hope to survive and complete their mission.
