The Marquis de Sade s name gave the world the word sadism, the love of giving and inflicting pain while deriving sexual pleasure from the act, as well as several novels, including the notorious Justine, or The Misfortunes of Virtue (1791). Justine s publication led to de Sade s being imprisoned for the last 13 years of his life after Napoleon Bonaparte described it as the the most abominable book ever engendered by the most depraved imagination .This film version, previously heavily censored, is released here completely uncut and in all its dubious glory. Justine tells the tale of two beautiful sisters, Juliette, an amoral nymphomaniac, and Justine, who seeks a life of chastity and virtue. Unfortunately for Justine, while her depraved sister finds nothing but success and happiness, she suffers constant despair and abuse, being raped, tortured, whipped, and accused of theft amongst umpteen other disasters during her turbulent young life.
