Adapted from Robert Katz's book DEATH IN ROME, this chilling tale is based on a true story of the Ardentine Massacre that took place in Italy during the German occupation of World War II. It occurred when the Italian Resistance attacked a squad of German storm troopers and killed 33 of them, prompting the Nazis to retaliate by cold-bloodedly murdering 330 innocent civilians, 10 for every German killed, in the Ardentine Hills outside Rome. Starring Richard Burton as the SS Colonel who orders the killings and Marcello Mastroianni as the priest who gives the Resistance refuge, MASSACRE IN ROME is a powerful film about the Nazi occupation of Italy.
