Andreas Lidl was one of the greatest virtuosos on his instrument the Baryton, a string instrument no longer in use, resembling a crossing between a cello and a viola damore. Lidl played in the court orchestra of Count Esterhazy (the patron of Joseph Haydn) and composed many works for the Baryton. A collection of his trios is heard on this disc. Michael Brüssing, a modern Baryton virtuoso, draws lovely sounds from his instrument. He and his trio won great critical acclaim with their recording of Haydns complete Baryton Trios (Brilliant Classics 93907) World premieres.
