Kentucky coal-miner-turned-activist-turned-folk-singer Nimrod Workman is best known to some for a featured scene in the film COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER. But I WANT TO GO is an a capella oral history of a man who has been through the rigors of industrial America first-hand. "Oh Death" and "Coal Black Mining Blues," like every track on this posthumous set, allow Workman's weathered twang to tell his anguished story, evoking several decades of a tough, unprivileged blue-collar world. These songs have clear contemporaries in--and influence on--key 20th-century songwriters like Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan.
