The CD cover for this disc has five photos of bassist Torbjorn Zetterberg (who has a mustache and a goatee) dressed in women's clothing. Since there are no liner notes, one can only speculate about the humor involved in the photo shoot. As it is, the music has nothing to do with the pictures. Zetterberg is a top-notch bassist from Sweden and his octet performs a set of adventurous originals on Skildrar Kvinnans Kamp. Individual soloists are not identified although Alberto Pinton clearly distinguishes himself on his many reeds. The music is sometimes reminiscent of that of Albert Ayler's free folk band with his brother Donald Ayler, but also includes episodic pieces that seem quite cinematic, passionate sound explorations that never linger too long, and free bop swing. Although the lack of liner notes (even in Swedish) is unfortunate, the music is quite stimulating and creative. ~ Scott Yanow
