This program is a tour of Tibet through its principle historical archives and treasures and antiquities. The Tibet Museum is the youngest museum in China and also Tibet’s first museum equipped with modern facilities. The architecture of the museum is a perfect blending of traditional Tibetan style and modern technologies. There is a large collection of antiques, handicraft and the like which have strong Tibetan characteristics. There are more than 3 million volumes of dossiers in the Tibet Archive. These dossiers, spanning 700 years since the Yuan Dynasty, cover politics, economics, science and institutions. The archives are primarily in Tibetan but there are unsurprisingly given the countries history, documents also in Manchu, Mongolian, Chinese, English and Russian. Tibet University is the only one university specialising in training teachers. This program focuses on the university as an epitome of higher education in Tibet.
